Scientific Name: Hibiscus 'Lollipops X Hibiscus brucei
Plant Family: Malvaceae
Hibiscus Popsicle is a new variety that has been bred on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland by crossing the very popular Hibiscus Lollipops and Hibiscus brucei. This hardy, versatile hibiscus produces stunning, large golden yellow flowers with watermelon coloured centre veining, en masse throughout the year. It is unique in that it will continue to flower in the cooler months and can also be grown in cooler regions. The leaves are also very unique, being a deep, rich green colour that are deeply lobed, giving it a very ornate appearance.
Hibiscus Popsicle prefers a sunny position, where the soil has been well prepared with plenty of organic matter and an application of slow release fertiliser. Hibiscus Popsicle is less prone to insect damage and is maintenance free. Hibiscus Popsicle can be grown in containers but will require regular watering and an annual application of slow release fertiliser.
Hibiscus Popsicle will give that tropical look even in cooler climates, producing flowers all year round. Hibiscus Popsicle can be grown as a single, free standing shrub in your garden or clipped, as a formal hedge along a boundary. Hibiscus Popsicle may be hedged at any height between 1m - 3m. Flowers can be cut and and brought inside to brighten up your living areas!
